About Melody

TRAINER, CHEERLEADER, BIRD-NERD

Melody first caught the bird bug at the age of 9 when she fell in love with her first pet, a pied cockatiel named Al. Al was the ultimate partner in crime and sparked a love and deep admiration for all birds and their well-being.

Melody has been employed by the Medical Center for Birds since April 2008. She is a Registered Veterinary Technician and Certified Trainer Partner through the Karen Pryor Academy in 2014. Melody has completed Susan Friedman's Learning and Living with Animals course and Steve Martin's training workshop at NEI, Natural Encounters, Inc. She has enjoyed many training adventures with furry companion pets, including a puppy training program with inmates at Valley State Prison.

Busy Beaks Academy was created in 2015 and has been offering group classes, private training sessions, online training sessions, veterinary consults, and webinars ever since! Working with the Medical Center for Birds, Melody is able to offer training consults to help improve medical management and assist with concerns like learned fear, medication training, desensitization and counter conditioning.

Meet Nettie

ADMINISTRATIVE QUEEN

Nettie is the captain of the Busy Beaks Academy ship!                  She has been offering her organizational skills and finesse with scheduling since early 2021. Not only is she a close friend of Melody's but she is friendly and efficient to boot!

When Nettie isn't helping out fielding calls and emails,              she is a DSP(Direct Support Professional) caring for adults with intellectual disabilities. Nettie loves that it is a very rewarding and fast-paced job. She has two dogs, Willow, a Shihtzu, and Ginger, a Yorkie mix. They are the loves of her life! Although she doesn't have any birds right now, Nettie loves all animals and even dreamed of being a vet as a child.

Nettie is a fully fledged bird-nerd now                          and is known for bringing up parrots in conversation any chance she gets! We are so grateful to have Nettie's positive, kind attitude in the Busy Beaks Academy team!
